Species Range

  • Today they are mainly found in eastern South America, from east Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam and probably the French Guiana, toward the south, to parts of Brazil, Bolivia and Peru.


GENDER

  • Similar appearance in both sexes.
  • Green color predominates, with a yellow hue on the lower parts.
  • Forehead and front part of the crown are a bright blue-green.
  • The white facial skin area extends through the lores to the eye ring.
  • Red plumage is visible along the edges of the carpal and the bend of wing, extending toward the major lower wing coverts; the rest of the lower wing coverts are green.
  • The primaries are green, with the exception of a wash of blue on the outer edges of the longer feathers, with the lower surface of the flight feathers a duller olive yellow color.
  • Tail feathers are green on the surface and the undersides are olive yellow.
  • Black-gray beak.
  • Gray-pink feet.
  • Red brown iris.

YOUTH

  • With a markedly duller color than adults; they lack the blue wash on the head and the visible red plumage on the edge of the carpal and bend of wing; but there is red on the upper and lower wing coverts.
  • Brown iris.
