Size:

38 cm. (15 in)

Species Range

  • Found in central Brazil, southeast and northeast Mato Grosso and in the proximity of northern Goias
  • Eastern Bolivia in the Santa Cruz, Tarija, Beni and Cuquisaca departments.
  • Paraguay, predominantly west of the Paraguay River, except in the arid areas of Chaco.
  • Argentina, in northern Salta and southwest of Jujuy.

GENDER

  • Similar appearance in both male and female.
  • Predominantly green.
  • Forehead, crown and lower part of the cheeks bare of brownish gray color.
  • Yellow crown around the back of the neck, which is broader in the middle.
  • Primaries' coverts are blue, with the underside of the flight feathers olive-yellow.
  • Blue hue over the covering of the wings and the outside barbs of some secondaries.
  • The fore side of the tail is brownish red with a blue tip and the underside is olive-yellow.
  • Grayish black beak, with a whitish paler area in the ends, which extends across the top.
  • Pink feet.
  • Reddish iris.

  • Immediately recognizable by their grayish feet.
  • Yellow collar around the neck is somewhat smaller.
